this is super simple!
you’ll need:
4 hair ties/elastics
how to:
1) divide your hair in the middle, (its good to tie one of the sections before you start braiding, in case you take a piece of hair accidentally from the other side)
2) start dutch braiding one section, (keep it close to the ear instead of braiding towards the back of your head). grab three pieces of hair from the top and start to braid it as you would normally do it, and keep adding pieces of hair to the braid as you keep braiding.

3) keep braiding until you reach your earlobe, then tie your hair with the hair elastic.
4) divide the pony tail in two, and braid that piece.
5) tie the little braid with a hair elastic, repeat the process of the other side of your head. and that’s it!

i highly recommend this leave-in conditioner, since my hair is naturally curly and it helps keep it without frizz, and it also makes it easier to straighten my hair.

A catnus tutorial: Katniss Everdeen’s braid in the film.
Step 1: Part your hair to the side, taking the side of your part that was left with the lesser amount of hair, take a section of your hair.
Step 2: Section of that piece into three different strands.
Step 3: Begin to “dutch braid’ that section of your hair. A roman braid is essentially a backwards french braid. If you don’t know how to “dutch” braid, here is an easy tutorial. x
Step 4: keep going till you reach the nape of your neck.
Step 5: This was difficult to photograph, but once you reach the bottom, take the remainder of your hair and split it into three strands, as if you were just doing a side braid.
Step 6: Secure the braid at the end with your tie of choice and you’re done! However, to get it to look even more like hers, take little strands of your hair by the ear and take them out of your hair, as pictured above.
Tips: This looks best with wavyish hair or semi-curly hair, just like Jenn’s in the movie. I recommend the use of a texturizer or “wave spray” to achieve the desired look. Try not too be too perfect with it, and let it look a bit messy! It gives it the most authentic look. This can be difficult to accomplish if you’re not experienced with braids, so good luck!

A catnus tutorial: Katniss Everdeen’s reaping day hair-do.
Step 1: Part hair down the side, take section of hair that begins at hairline on the side of the head you were left with less hair on.
Step 2: Divide that section into three sections, and begin to braid the section “french” braid style.
Step 3: braid all the way down to to the nape of the neck, and pin it down with a bobby pin, so that it is tucked under the hair. Spray with hair spray.
Step 4: Take other section of hair, and begin the same process(2-3) Make sure to leave it loose, and don’t do it too tight, the goal is for it to look elegant and natural.
Step 5: Braid it all the way till the end, then pin to the opposite side of the head.
Step 6: Your hair should now look like this from behind. Take the tight braid and loosely pull at it with your fingers, so that it looks more casual, and less tight.
Step 7: Your hair should appear to be in a nice loose bun from the front; as pictured.
Tips: This is an extremely tricky hair style to do. I recommend the use of a mousse or hairspray to make your hair thick enough to stay in place, if you have thin hair. Personally I have thick hair, so I just do this hair style without any products. If your hair is very long, I recommend wrapping the braids around the nape of your neck twice as oppose to just pinning it on the opposite side once. This took me many tries to get right, so don’t feel discouraged if it takes you a couple of tries!
